POLICY: How to Have Fun with Comment Spam and Increase your index

by beale, under Blogroll, Rants and Raves

I am officially starting a movement and will accept donations in the furtherance of this cause. If you like this idea, please feel free to comment but make sure you read this post and policy.

I have not seen a script anywhere that does this and am working on getting it developed, but until then please note.. This is my idea and I’d appreciate credit for it.

Just so everyone who can read this will understand what this policy is all about. If are reading this, you are ok and a real live person. If you cannot read it and don’t follow this comment policy, then you are a spam bot.

Spam filters are great and catch 90% of comment spam. However, the people that copy and paste a generic comment, usually about 15-20 words and or 2 sentences, without actually contributing to the conversation are spammers as well. Yes, they contirbute to search indexing and I will accept that benefit and I do grant link juice… but on my terms.

I have come up with a Fun and proactive approach on dealing with long tail comment spam. I work hard for my links… so should you!! :)

It is very simple. If you’re comment does not actively contribute and mention something in the post, and makes it past the spam filter, you will still get a link. I will approve the comment with one very important editorial change…

Your anchor text will be changed to the single word… Spam

You will still get your link, but as owner of this site it is my right to have complete editorial control over the content – including comments.

I believe that if enough of these spam bots start returning back links with “Spam” as the anchor text. It will change behavior eventually.

That is all…

Have fun my little Tadpoles!!

i agree with you that spam filters do catch spammers, but i m not sure that everyone of them are successful, because spammers are great minded, and they make their every way out of it, it would be great if we could stop them, but still we need some solid idea, what do you say ?

No Spam filter catches 100%, but TanTanNoodles catches MUCH more than any I have ever tried. The ones that are left, I have fun with as I said in the policy. It makes for entertaining reading for my tadpoles.

I also have another plugin installed that turns the comments into indexable pages for search engines. Win win..

Why do you have keywordluv installed if you are not comfortable with keywords in anchor text? I use Akismet on my blogs but once in a while even bots get through. I have a blog that I haven’t updated in a year and it has one ‘hello world’ post. And it receives quite some spam comments. :D

I have been changing name to ’spam’ for some time now, but I won’t give backlink to gambling/adult site even if the comment looks like a genuine one.

    Blufrogger: Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve been a long time reader, and after this excellent post I just had to comment! Very nice blog, but where can I find your RSS feed?
